 Weather 天气

Objective
1. I can observe, measure, and record the basic elements of weather.
2. I can interpret recorded weather data for simple patterns.
3. I can evaluate weather predictions based upon observational data.

2.1 Four types of clouds  四种云

Cumulus Clouds  积云

💭 puffy and white-like cotton balls; flat on the   bottom and fluffy on top

💭 from 2,000 to 20,000 feet above the ground

💭usually indicate fair weather

💭 sometimes they grow very large and become thunderheads

Cirrus Clouds  卷云

💭 thin, curly, wispy clouds

💭 between 25,000 to 40,000 feet above the ground

💭 so high in the atmosphere that the water droplets       freeze into ice crystals

💭 indicate an incoming storm or weather change

Cumulonimbus  Clouds  积雨云

💭 the thunderstorm clouds with rain lightening or snow.

Stratus Clouds  层云

💭 low, flat, gray clouds that look like sheets covering the sky

💭 closest clouds to the ground

💭 as low as surface level (fog) to about 6,500 feet             above the ground

💭 produce rain, drizzle, snow, or mist

2.2 Weather Instrument 天气测量工具

雨量计

Rain Guage

Measures the amount of precipitation

温度计

Thermometer

Measures air temperature

湿度计

Hygrometer

Measures  humidity

风向标

Wind Vane

Measures wind direction

气压计

Barometer

Measures air pressure

风速表

Anemometer

Measures wind speed

Are you ready for the unit test?

  1. What are cirrus clouds, cumulus clouds, cumulonimbus clouds, and stratus clouds?

  2. What instrument measures air pressure? What instrument measures air temperature? What instrument measures humidity? What instrument measures wind speed? What instrument measures the amount of precipitation?

  3. Does air have color?(No) Does air have weight?(Yes)

 4.  What is a scientist called who studies the weather?
