Objective 目标
1.Understand the physical characteristics of Utah's desert.
2.Describe the common plants and animals found in Utah desert and how these organisms have adapted to the environment in which they live.
8.1 Desert 沙漠
Desert is an area of land that receives less than 10 inches of rainfall a year. If most of the land in Utah was left in its natural state, it would be desert.

 

8.2  Adaptation 适应

Adaptation适应:Living organisms that change in order to survive in their habitat.

Pear Cactus 刺梨
They have spines and thick leaves for water conservation.
Sagebrush  山艾树
When there is little rain, they have deep tap roots to find water. Otherwise, they have shallow roots spread out below the surface to absorb the water.
Jackrabbit  杰克兔
Their ears are able to control the body temperature. They use ear-conditioning to keep cool.
Rattlesnake  响尾蛇
​The poisonous bite would help them to get food. 
Desert Tortoise 沙漠龟
​They store water in their large urinary bladders (up to 40% of their body weight).
Lizard 蜥蜴
​Dry scaly skin keeps the water inside its body. When attacked, they can detach their tail and get away.
