We are so excited to launch our blog this year! It has been a process, but hopefully it will serve the purpose of sharing upcoming events and happenings in our classrooms. With in this blog you will find information about events happening this month as a whole grade, as an immersion group, and in individual classes.

Each month there will be a new post describing that months events. As needed there will be additional posts. Please read through thoroughly for any questions you may have. If you have a question specific to your student please send a private email. Upcoming events are also listed to the right of the monthly posts.

This year we will be doing our spelling according to Greek and Latin root words. You will notice that these words can tend to be a little bit tricky. Please make sure to practice with your students at home. Spelling city is available, just look up Mrs. Wyatt.

We will be starting our spelling next Monday with Unit 1 Week 1. Look for the spelling list to come home that day and on our spelling page here. The lists are attached on the English documents page. Each Monday students will bring home a list of words that need to be categorized by their root word, they need to turn these in Friday. Just a reminder that every student is assigned a specific amount of words to practice.

Spelling tests are given every Friday.

Science

This year, science will be taught in Chinese, but all science tests will be in English. Thus, your kids need to spend at least 5 minutes per day to review science in English. Reviewing materials are available on the Science page of our blog. From Aug 30 to Sep 13, we will learn about the water cycle. On Sep 14, there will be a unit test. The best way to be prepared for the unit test is to make sure kids can answer all questions listed on the homework page I send home.

Homework

This year, Ms. Zhou only assign science homework, which is usually 5 minutes per day. If your kids are willing to do some Chinese work at home, please encourage them to use the mandarin matrix website: http://www.mandarinmatrix.com. Account set up information will be sent home on Aug 23. There are also Chinese resources on the Chinese page of the blog. Feel free to contact Ms.Zhou when you have questions.

Thanks a lot!
