Hello Parents and Guardians!

With in this blog you will find information about events happening this month as a whole grade, as an immersion group, and in individual classes.

Each month there will be a new post describing that months events. As needed there will be additional posts. Please read through thoroughly for any questions you may have. If you have a question specific to your student please send a private email. Upcoming events are also listed to the right of the monthly posts.

Upcoming Events in Fourth Grade

Thanksgiving Point Gardens Field Trip

Date: September 19th

Time: 9:30-1:30

The entire fourth grade will be attending the explorer plus at Thanksgiving Points Museum of Ancient Life. Students will experience the development of fossils. Please make sure your student is in performance dress and has a bag lunch.

P.E. Wonder Day

Date: September 22nd

Time: 10:50-12:00

The fourth grade will be exploring metric measurement through 5 different centers. They will be measuring distance, volume, and mass. This is a good chance to introduce the type of measurement we will be learning about later in the year. We are still looking for volunteers to run a one of the centers and supplies that will help us with our wonder day.

Language Arts

Spelling

We are currently on unit 1. The lists are attached on the English documents page. Each Monday students will bring home a list of words that need to be categorized by their root word. Just a reminder that every student is assigned a specific amount of words to practice.

Spelling tests are given every Friday.

September 5-8: Unit 1 Week 2

September 11-15: Unit 1 Week 3

September 18-22: Unit 1 Week 4

September 25-29: Unit 1 Week 5

Reading

At the beginning of the month you should have seen a reading menu and book report information packet.

Each term there will be a genre themed book report. This term is Mystery. They will need to complete a novel with in this genre and create a cereal box representation of their book. They will present their cereal box on October 27th to the class.

This terms book report is due October 27th

The reading menu is the other part of how we monitor student reading each month. Students need to pick one novel each month with in the book report requirements. They need to pick an activity for each section (Appetizers, Main Course, and Desserts) and fill out the back of the menu, using details from their book. Menu's are due the last Friday of each month.

This month's reading menu is due September 29th

Math

This month we will be working on adding and subtraction rules. We will also be starting multiplication and division. We ask that you review multiplication facts with your students by using the multiplication charts provided. Students need to master these facts by the end of the year.

Science

Sep 18-Oct 5 Weather Unit

On Sep 14, we will have our water cycle unit test. This year, science will be mainly taught in Chinese, but all science tests, including SAGE, will be in English. Thus, as indicated in Chinese homework, kids are expected to spend at least 5 minutes per day to do the science review in English on our blog. It’s great if your kid has started to do this. If not, please encourage them to start.
